My food highlight in TV writing: I wrote into a script the throwaway stage direction “Charles cooks a pot of gumbo.” CUT TO: weeks later, on set, a pot of gumbo on the boil. Sort of ridiculous, isn’t it, that someone in the props department was charged to making sure we had the proper okra for the CRUCIALLY IMPORTANT gumbo shot?
